Fort Worth — flood-cut drywall and drying equipment

Homeowners · Fort Worth · DFW

Someone’s probably already knocked on your door. Here’s how to tell who to actually hire.

After a fire or flood, several people show up fast: storm chasers, carrier-preferred vendors, and actual contractors. They’re not the same thing, and picking wrong costs you money or time.

Walk through who you’re talking to

  1. 01 Did they show up uninvited within hours of the loss? Not automatically bad, but worth verifying licensing and local presence before signing anything.
  2. 02 Are they telling you they’re “on your insurance company’s list”? That’s a program contractor — not required, and not automatically in your best interest. Program contractors explained.
  3. 03 Are they asking you to sign a contract before inspecting the damage? Don’t. A real scope comes after documentation, not before.
  4. 04 Do they talk about “settling your claim”? Contractors legally can’t represent you on a claim in Texas — that’s a public adjuster’s job, a different license. Contractor vs public adjuster.
  5. 05 Is this a condo unit — building vs your stuff? Association policy and your contents policy are often two files. Don’t default pack-out to the building’s contractor list. Condo contents vs building.

The one thing most people don’t know

The first scope can influence the entire reconstruction. If that number was written from the street — or from a program matrix — the house hasn’t been documented yet.

Homeowner FAQs

Do I have to use the contractor my insurance company sends?

No. You choose the contractor.

Should I get more than one estimate?

Yes, especially if the first one was written by a program contractor without full documentation.

Does PRC settle claims or act as a public adjuster?

No. We restore the house. If you need claim representation, that’s a different license.

You choose the contractor. Program contractors. Need a second look at their PDF? Estimate review.
