Suppression water is still a water loss

Can I stay in my house after a fire?

How fast can you get to my house?

Do I have to use the contractor my insurance company suggests?

What should I do first after a house fire?
Make sure everyone is out and safe, and call 911 if the fire is still active. Don't go back in until the fire department says it is safe. After release, call PRC to board up openings, tarp the roof and start drying the water used to put the fire out.
Does water from the fire department need to be dried?
Yes. Water used to put out a fire soaks ceilings, walls, floors and insulation, often in rooms that never burned. If it isn't extracted and dried, the damage keeps spreading. PRC dries the structure to a dry standard while it handles board-up and smoke cleaning.
Can anything be saved after a house fire?
Often some of it. Items that were away from the heat and have only smoke or soot on them can often be cleaned. Items that burned, melted or sat soaked are usually not recoverable. A technician sorts belongings room by room before anything is thrown away.
Is it safe to run the heat or air conditioning after a fire?
Not until the smoke has been dealt with. Running the system can pull soot into the ducts and push it into other rooms. Leave it off until a technician has looked at the equipment and the ducts, and call us if the house is already running.
Why does the whole house smell like smoke if the fire was in one room?
Smoke travels through the house with heat and air and lands on walls, fabric and inside ducts and insulation, far from the fire. The smell comes from that residue, so it has to be cleaned from surfaces, not covered up.
