Fort Worth — charred studs after a house fire

Fire · Fort Worth · DFW

You had a fire. Here’s what actually happens next.

Water from the hoses, soot in places you can’t see, and an insurance adjuster who may only make a short visit. That gap — between what the fire department leaves behind and what still needs documenting — is where PRC works.

24/7 emergency line. Board-up and stabilization same day.

Walk through where you are right now

  1. 01 Is the fire department still on scene or just left? Don’t re-enter until the fire marshal clears it. Once cleared, the building still isn’t safe to walk freely — floor joists and roof decking can be compromised by heat even with no visible burn.
  2. 02 Has anyone documented the building before cleanup starts? Soot migrates through HVAC systems and wall cavities well past the visible burn line. If materials get cleaned or removed before that’s mapped, you lose the photo record of what was there before cleanup.
  3. 03 Is this a total loss or a contained room/area fire? Contained fires still usually need smoke and soot remediation building-wide — smoke odor travels further than the fire did.
  4. 04 Do you have somewhere to stay? If the home’s uninhabitable, your policy’s Loss of Use / Additional Living Expenses coverage may apply — ask your carrier directly, in writing. Read your policy.
  5. 05 Has the insurance company sent their own contractor or adjuster yet? You’re not required to use a carrier-recommended contractor in Texas. Program contractors explained.

The one thing most people don’t know

Soot residue is invisible on many surfaces until it’s tested. HVAC systems that ran during or after the fire can recirculate soot through the entire house — which is why a full system evaluation, not just a visible-room walkthrough, belongs in the scope.

Fire FAQs

Can I stay in my house after a fire?

Depends on smoke concentration, structural clearance, and utility status — not just whether the flames reached your room. We’ll tell you plainly during the initial walkthrough.

Will insurance cover smoke damage in rooms the fire didn’t reach?

Often yes when it’s documented as part of the same covered loss — and it’s exactly the kind of scope item that gets missed without a full inspection. Coverage still follows the policy.

How fast do you respond?

Same-day board-up and stabilization; documentation and drying begin after the building is secured.

Do you settle my insurance claim?

No. PRC is a restoration contractor, not a public adjuster. We document and restore the house.

Fire in a Fort Worth or Dallas condo?

Building structure and your contents are often two files. Who packs your belongings should answer to you, not default to the association’s list. Condo contents vs building.

We do not settle the claim. Contractor vs public adjuster.

Fire still active, or building unsecured?
