Before you sign off on their number, have someone check their math.
Insurance estimates are built the same way ours are — line by line, in Xactimate. The difference is usually what got left out, not what’s wrong with what’s in it.
817-632-2522Walk through why estimates come in low
- 01 Was the estimate written from a full inspection or a quick walkthrough? Missed line items are the most common gap — not disputed pricing.
- 02 Does it include hidden-damage allowances? Wet insulation, subfloor, or framing behind finished surfaces often isn’t priced until it’s opened up.
- 03 Are the unit prices regional and current? Xactimate pricing is updated regularly by ZIP code — outdated price lists undervalue labor and materials.
- 04 Does it match code-required work? Local code often requires more than a like-for-like repair (e.g., electrical or egress updates) — omitting this is a common gap.
- 05 Do you actually disagree with the number, or just feel uneasy about it? A review tells you which one it is.
The one thing most people don’t know
Xactimate estimates can look authoritative — line items, codes, totals — while still omitting entire scope categories the software never flagged because no one entered them. A professional review checks for what’s missing, not just what’s priced.
Estimate review FAQs
Is a review the same as a second estimate?
No — it’s a technical read of the existing one, checking completeness and pricing, not a competing bid.
How long does a review take?
Typically 24–48 hours once we have the documents.
Do you settle my claim?
No. PRC is not a public adjuster. A review documents gaps in the estimate; it does not negotiate or settle the claim for you.
We don’t settle the claim. Contractor vs public adjuster.
