Field notebook and moisture meter used to document a Fort Worth fire or water loss

Fort Worth · Claim vs. the house

If you landed here looking for a public adjuster

We document the house and rebuild it. We do not negotiate the claim. If you landed here looking for a Fort Worth public adjuster, sometimes that’s the right hire — and a lot of times you need a contractor first. Let’s walk through it.

24/7 emergency line. Same-day drying across Fort Worth and DFW.

Tell us what happened

If water is still running, call. Text photos to 817-632-2522. We’ll tell you plainly whether this is a contractor job, a claim-representation job, or both.

You have a damaged house and a claim

Those are two jobs. Mixing them up is how people hire the wrong one — or sign a contract before anyone has looked behind the drywall.

  • Public adjuster

Licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance to represent you on the claim: coverage, settlement, disputes with the carrier. Different license. Different job.

  • Restoration contractor

Documents the building, dries it, writes a scope from what’s wet or burned, and rebuilds it. Talks to the carrier about the house. Does not settle the claim.

Public in The Public Restoration Company is the company name. It is not a public-adjuster license. PRC is the contractor.

Walk through whether you need one

  1. 01 Is the house still open, wet, or unsafe? Stabilize first — board-up, extraction, drying. Claim representation does not pull water out of a cabinet. Call 817-632-2522.
  2. 02 Has anyone documented the building? Photos, moisture map, what failed, where smoke or water traveled. A lot of “I need a public adjuster” searches start because the only paper in the file is a thin preferred-vendor estimate. That’s a contractor and a technical estimate review, not automatically a PA.
  3. 03 Are you fighting coverage, or fighting the scope? “They won’t pay what the policy covers” is claim representation. “Their guy skipped the wet cabinets” is the house. Different hires.
  4. 04 In Texas you still pick the contractor. The carrier’s vendor list is optional — program contractors explained. Hiring a public adjuster does not mean you have to use the carrier’s list, and skipping a PA does not mean you have to use it either.
  5. 05 Don’t sign two jobs into one contract. Under Texas law, a public adjuster on your claim cannot also be your contractor, and a contractor cannot advertise that they will handle your insurance claim. Read your policy. This is not legal advice.

When a public adjuster may be the right hire

Coverage denial. A settlement that ignores what the policy actually says. You want someone licensed to negotiate the claim on your behalf. That’s a licensed public insurance adjuster — TDI, not a contractor with a sales pitch.

TDI’s consumer page: What to know before you hire a public adjuster. They note a public adjuster can charge up to 10% of the total amount the company pays on the claim, not just the disputed piece, and you still pay your deductible. Get the fee in writing. Call TDI Help Line 800-252-3439 to check a license. This is not legal advice.

What PRC will and won’t do

We restore the house. We do not settle the claim.

  • Photograph and measure the damage
  • Write a restoration estimate and repair scope from the building
  • Keep moisture logs, equipment records, and material quantities
  • Answer technical construction questions from the carrier’s adjuster
  • Dry and rebuild

Coverage, settlement, and disputes with the insurance company stay with you — or with a licensed public adjuster you hire. We hand you the building file.

Public adjuster FAQs

Are you a Fort Worth public adjuster?
No. The Public Restoration Company is a restoration contractor. Public in our name is not a public-adjuster license. We document the house and rebuild it. We do not negotiate the settlement.
Do I need a public adjuster after a fire or water loss in Fort Worth?
Sometimes. A licensed public adjuster represents you on the claim: coverage and settlement. A lot of people searching for one actually need the house documented, dried, and rebuilt first. Walk the loss before you sign a claim-representation contract.
Can a contractor handle my insurance claim in Texas?
No. Texas law does not let a contractor advertise that they will handle your insurance claim, and a public adjuster on your claim cannot also be your contractor. We write the scope, talk to the carrier about the building, and rebuild. Coverage stays with you and the insurance company. This is not legal advice.
What does a public adjuster cost in Texas?
TDI says public adjusters can charge up to 10% of the total amount the company will pay for the claim — not just the disputed piece — and you still pay your deductible. Confirm the fee in writing. TDI Help Line 800-252-3439. Not legal advice.
Can I choose my own restoration contractor if I hire a public adjuster?
Yes. In Texas you pick the contractor. The carrier’s vendor list is optional. A public adjuster and a restoration contractor are two different hires.
